Comedy 2.0: The week in Comedy

Comedy 2.0

It’s been a colossally comedic week: if you’ve been paying attention to the Events page, you’ll know that Maria Bamford was at Comix (NYC: 14th street and 9th) Friday and Saturday and that Monday (also at Comix) was the Hysterical Festival featuring Heather Lawless of Variety SHAC!

I saw two shows out of Maria Bamford’s four-show lineup, officially making her my idol. Though Bamford takes top billing, Heather Lawless is certainly one of the top 5 comedians I most adore. If any of you out there want to see what I’m gushing about, check out Variety SHAC’s next show on May 1st at UCB: I’ll post a reminder when their tickets become RESERVABLE. Now then, I’ve got more comedians to show you. Step into my basement…

Chelsea Peretti’s blog has a new video up featuring herself on Lewis Black’s “Root of All Evil” on Comedy Central. Check it out on her blog, or just watch it here. I post because my agreement with their sentiment couldn’t be stronger.

MMOvie

MMOvie

MMOvie is a project Vickdang and I have been working on with Full Stealth Films and VOIG.com for the past few months. Vic and I are the head screenwriters. Vic’s also the producer and I’m the director of animation.

The first episode is now live! CHECK IT OUT! (or just watch after the jump)

MMOvie is a machinima (video game animation) using World of Warcraft to spoof famous movies. The project is planned as a series of episodic releases that will form a feature-length movie when complete.

This all started with a trailer we made with this same group in the summer. Check that out too!

Thanks for giving our stuff a look. We worked really hard on it. Let us know what you think! Also, if you’re a machinima fan, let us know YOUR favorite machinimas! And if you’re a machinimator who stumbled across this post, show us your work! We’d love to check you all out too. *wink* and by *wink* I mean * BIG, CREEPY *WINK* *

We Saw Variety SHAC!

Variety SHAC

And it was GREAT! Brent Weinbach, John Roberts, Jim Gaffigan, and Justice of the Unicorns gave fantastic performances. The heart of the show, however, was made up of Tigers and Monkeys (with lead singer Shonali Bhowmik), Andrea Rosen, Chelsea Peretti, and Heather Lawless (Who, together, are the SHAC in Variety SHAC).

They had standup, they had music, they had video, they had me at hello. It is extremely cool that this show gets put on every month, and I encourage all of you to see a Variety SHAC show as soon as possible: this is an active group and there’s a good chance they’ll get picked up to do bigger things in the near future.

I wish I could offer more concrete examples of how good this show was. All I’ve got is this video they showed, some footage from their previous show at the Knitting Factory, and this awesome photo we took with “the SHAC!” Actually, it’s only the S and the C. Enjoy…
