Guys and Ladies! Today is a Super Tuesday! Not only was Jamba Juice giving away free breakfast (mmmmm…mango peach topper….) but my all time favorite living writer has a new book out TODAY! Feast your eyes:

I haven’t read it yet, because I don’t own it yet, but I can tell you that this is a companion piece to Pullman’s wonderful His Dark Materials series. I suppose you could describe it as something of a spin-off; it fills in the back story of two of the characters?from the original trilogy (for those “in the know” that would be Lee Scorsby and Iorek Byrnison). Pullman did something similar with his Sally Lockhart trilogy. It allows him to revisit and flesh out?a world without compromising the arc that he has already written. And His Dark Materials introduced a world so rich and varied that it is quite a thrill to anticipate learning more about it. Seriously, ya’ll, these books are so good! Go read them!
*Update: But wait! There’s more!?

If you are a TRUE gamer and have braved the hardest of games, you might just be ready for the hardest game ever created of all for the rest of time: You Have to Burn the Rope. You play as a small, defenseless character whose only weapon is a throwing ax. You have infinite ammo, but it will do you little good my friend. At the end of an IMPOSSIBLE tunnel, you must face the Grinning Colossus. He regains his health very quickly, and your puny axes cannot possibly do enough damage in time. You’ll need to figure out some other way to defeat him, some way to kill him beside using your axes. You want a hint? NONSENSE! You Have to Burn the Rope is supposed to be challenging! You can only win You Have to Burn the Rope with clever strategy. Think outside the box for You Have to Burn the Rope. Remember: You Have to Burn the Rope. It’s a tough game.
Once you’ve played the game (you won’t beat it, it’s simply impossible), come back here for some (not sarcastic) wrap up comments after the jump. Don’t feel to bad about quitting. It just means you’re a quitter, and worthless.

I love street art!!
Why do I love street art? Well, for one, I can afford it. Also, it tends to be a little funkier, a little more off the beaten path. But besides that, I love wandering down the street and having something catch my eye, and being able to immediately engage the artist in a discussion. I love to know about the process of creation, what the piece means to the artist. I particularly like to know if my impressions of the piece match up with the intentions of the artist. The entire concept of meaning, its creation and dissemination, is fascinating to me. And being able to talk to artists allows me to assuage some of my burning curiosity.

It’s female’s history month and to celebrate here on ThereforeYou, I’ve put together a short list of some of my favorite women of all time! This article is dedicated to those feminine forces out there who refused to wear shoulderpads , not only because “The Pads” signify something problematic, but also because they are HIDEOUS AS HELL!!! AM I RIGHT LAAADIES?
(Note: Some of them probably did/do actually wear shoulderpads, but don’t hate da’ playa, hate da’ game. We all have to wear warpaint sometimes. Also, that shit can be “hot” if rocked ironically.)
Judith Butler- Feminist, Queer, Gay and Lesbian Theorist

In an early 90′s interview Butler stated, “I think that every sexual position is fundamentally comic.” After reading that quote, I was definitely hooked. In one of her many influential books, Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity (1990), Butler argued that feminism made the mistake of trying to assert “women” as a singular group with shared interests, traits and characteristics. Butler believes this approach performs “an unwitting regulation and reification of gender relations”– thus reinforcing a binary view of gender relations wherein individuals are divided into categories of women and men.
She said that in 1990! In 1990, I was playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: “The Arcade Game” in the lobby of a movie theater that I was later going to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: “The Movie” in. Well anywho, now I’m “old enough” to get what she’s saying and pass it along to nice people like you. Here’s a great link to some quotes and online resources.

Chelsea Peretti’s blog has a new video up featuring herself on Lewis Black’s “Root of All Evil” on Comedy Central. Check it out on her blog, or just watch it here. I post because my agreement with their sentiment couldn’t be stronger.

I have a great item for my first World of Stuff post. I just recently had a birthday, and I can always look forward to good stuff for presents. This year proved to be a bumper crop, and my first few column posts will cover some of them.
First up is a gift from my brother: the Kenneth Bobblehead. Many of you probably watch 30 Rock, so may be familiar with the eager NBC page, Kenneth Parcell, played by Jack McBrayer. He delivers food and cleans up barfs for the cast of TGS, the sketch comedy show in 30 Rock. Kenneth will do, and has done, just about anything for television. So over the course of the show, the character has amassed a good number of quotes.
Enter the Kenneth Bobblehead. Its head bobs around like one would expect, but it also comes loaded with some of the best Kenneth quotes from the first season of 30 Rock. Some of the quotes include, “Would you like me to dance for you?”, “To the wig shop!”, and “This mess is gonna get raw like sushi, so haters to the left.” The quotes are read by Jack McBrayer, who can be seen lurking on the side of the box. But the audio isn’t taken from the episodes, so they lack some of the inflection from the video. It sounds a little more like Kenneth reciting the quotes after the fact, as if he were thinking back on some of the weird things he had said while working at TGS.
