Hello philanthropists!
This is pretty much the coolest charity drive my bookish heart could hope for. Give it a look, and maybe some money, or best of all a couple of books!
Remember The Wizard? I thought it was a really cool movie when I first saw it. In this scene they show off the Power Glove, a pretty ambitious attempt to bring motion control into games. A lot of kids wanted one, and the movie was a perfect opportunity for some good old fashioned 80′s marketing to keep us wanting. Keep in mind that we didn’t have the Internets rumor mill to feed us with speculation and low-res leaked media, so The Wizard was the best way to see the Power Glove in action.

Well the format war is officially over. Personally I’m glad they’ve decided to stick with Blu-Ray as I’ve been very impressed with the features and quality of the Blu-Ray movies. Here’s the official word from IMDB:
Toshiba today (Tuesday) formally announced the death of HD DVD, thereby ending its two-year-long battle with Sony

There’s a great wrap up article about the Writers’ Guild strike on Salon.com that puts the strike in a historical context. The article gives a brief history of the guild, including the darker blacklisting days, but, more importantly, it talks about the strikes in 1985 and 1988 over VHS. Those strikes really set

If you want to learn a thing or two about Therefore Production’s sense of humor, than I suggest you get yourself to your nearest book seller make yourself at home with Edward Gorey. (And if you are very good maybe some day we’ll even show you our Edward Gorey tribute film.)
If you happen to be unfamiliar with him, Edward Gorey (1925- 2000)?is most famous for his work as an illustrator, particularly his work on T. S. Elliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats (please note: he had NOTHING to do with the musical-that-shall-not-be-named!), but his personal projects were what earned him his substantial cult following. He blends storytelling that is child-like in its simplicity with detailed gothic?pen and ink sketches and an?irrepressibly wicked sense of humor. He was rocking comedic horror before Tim Burton was born. His most famous piece is “The Ghastlycrumb Tinies,” an alphabet book of children’s death. One of my favorite panels from this story, courtesy of Google Image Search,?is after the jump:

Did you know that there were 110 Grammy Award categories last night?
And how many made it on air? By my best estimate, 7.
What the hell? Now, I get that you can’t televise 110 awards. It would be downright dull. But there were some major categories left out; almost everything having to do with rock and pop got cut, and R&B only fared slightly better. And if you happen to like jazz, or (dare I say it) classical? Out of luck, my friend.
So, with only 6% of the awards making it to the air in a 3.5 hour broadcast, what did we get instead? A little bit of good, a whole lot of mediocre, and an suprising amount of downright ugly. Some of the highlights and lowlights after the jump.
